RESIDENCY IN ANTANANARIVO

The artist residency program set up by Fondation H in Antananarivo is closely linked to current and future exhibitions, on invitation from the curators and Fondation H.

The research fields explored by the artists intensify and deepen the subjects addressed by the exhibitions, allowing them to explore new perspectives in the development of their respective artistic approaches. The presence of resident artists in Antananarivo is an opportunity to immerse themselves in the city and its cultural scene, getting in touch with local artists, artisans and cultural players and experimenting with local creative materials and techniques.

Each year, 6 to 8 artists are invited to Antananarivo for a period of three months and receive financial and logistical support as well as guidance from Fondation H staff and exhibition curators in carrying out their research or creative projects. A research and production grant are awarded to the artists, and all costs associated with the residency (international travel, accommodation, visas, living expenses) are covered by Fondation H.

In the middle and/or at the end of the residency, a time of research feedback is organized to enable the artists to confront their work with the public eye. This restitution can take several forms, agreed with each artist on a case-by-case basis: a written deliverable, a time of exchange and sharing with the general public or a specific audience, an ephemeral or a perennial hanging, an integration of some or all of the works created into the current exhibition, a performance, a thematic workshop, etc.
