THE BUILDING

Located in the Ambatomena district, literally “le lieu des pierres rouges” [the place of red stones] in malagasy, in the heart of the capital, Antananarivo, the new space of Fondation H was built between 1912 and 1924 to host the Central Offices of Posts and Telegraphs under the French colonial administration.

Typical architecture of this time, in traditional brick andtiles of Madagascar, the building was completely restored over two years underthe aegis of the Malagasy architectural firm Otmar Dodel and in closecollaboration with local craftsmen, who partly recovered and rehabilitated oldtechniques for this renovation.

THE GARDEN

A large garden was planted at the back of the Fondation H premises, offering a home to a wide variety of plant species that are endemic to the Great Island. The garden—open to all—provides a haven in a highly dense downtown area with little vegetation. The garden also serves as a venue for open-air events and artistic installations.

THE RESTAURANT

A restaurant located in the central courtyard of Fondation H on the ground floor offers a daily-changing selection of fresh local dishes. You can also enjoy a wide selection of hot and cold beverages.
The restaurant’s open hours are the same as Fondation H’s.
