FINOANA RATOVO ANDRIANTSEHENO
INVITATION AUX TEMPS [INVITATION TO TIMES]

ANTANANARIVO
NOVEMBER 2 - 28

Finoana Ratovo Andriantseheno, born in 1993, lives and works in Antananarivo. Second joint winner of Prix Paritana 2024, this visual artist comes from a family of tinsmiths. Her favorite material is iron, a natural extension of her legacy. She draws her inspiration from human life, her environment and her experience of it.

For Prix Paritana 2024, Finoana Ratovo Andriantseheno presents her project Invitation aux temps [Invitation to times], a meditation on time. The project invites us to accept the changes and natural cycles that punctuate life, while emphasizing the value of each moment. Time, considered a divine gift by the artist, is explored here through equidistant straight lines, symbolizing regularity and harmony. The accumulation of these lines creates a visual rhythm, comparable to a melody. For the artist, these lines constitute life in the same way they compose time, illustrating the inseparable link between human existence and the passage of time.

Each of the works presented in the exhibition, the paintings as much as the monumental sculpture, is created in a highly calculated, planned manner. For the artist, this refers to the idea of facing a mathematical challenge and solving a scientific problem. By extension, it could also be the resolution of a societal problem, a preoccupation of creating the harmony of a whole. The concepts of “hitsiny/mahitsy” (righteousness) - as an essential value - and “fihavanana” (social bond) are fundamental to herwork. Each work represents a society organized around vertical and horizontal lines, connected by right angles.

In her work, Finoana Ratovo Andriantseheno uses bold colors and simple geometric shapes, such as squares, triangles and circles, which evoke principles of balance. Together, these shapes symbolize a vision of universality where justice and righteousness coexist, offering a solid foundation for a harmonious society organized around principles of justice, righteousness and equity.
